How to Make Sure You Get AMCAS Ready for Review

You’ve already completed the amcas application and have submitted your transcripts, what’s next? It is important to know that amcas ready for review means that AMCAS has received your transcripts and placed them in line. The amcas ready for review status also means you have done your job as an applicant by submitting all necessary documents. Now it is time to wait patiently while AMCAS reviews them!

The Medical School Application Process

The primary application is amcas. amcas is a centralized application service that provides schools with your completed amcas application, including all of the information you provided and any supporting material to help them make an informed decision about whether or not they should accept you as their applicant for admission into medical school (source).

The amcas ready for review status means that AMCAS has received your transcripts and all other documents and has placed them in line to be reviewed. amcas ready for review also means you have done your job as an applicant by submitting all necessary documents. You will need to wait patiently while AMCAS reviews these materials before they make a decision about whether or not there are any problems with the amcas application that needs attention (source).

There are only a few things that go into the ready for review part of your AMCAS application.

The transcripts and the MCAT score need to be verified, but the MCAT is administered by the AAMC which is integrated within the AMCAS application, so your scores are there.

Basically, the only thing that needs to be verified is your transcript.

In summary, when your application makes it to the ready for review stage, it simply means you have done all you need to do and it is being reviewed for accuracy and legit “ness” if you will.

After the primary application is the secondary application, which all the medical schools will send one.

Then are the interviews, which are pretty self explanatory.

The AMCAS application Ready for Review verification process

This is a verification process that makes sure your transcripts are indeed yours and everything matches up based on what you said and what your school says.

The process is essential to the medical school application process as it verifies from someone who has no interest in the process that your documents are legit.

What it essentially looks like is that there is a dedicated AMCAS verifier, that works hard to make sure everything is legit and ready to go. Once they decide that is the case, your application moves to verified status.

Parts of the AMCAS application

The AMCAS application is a centralized application service that provides schools with your amcas application, including all of the information you provided and any supporting material to help them make an informed decision about whether or not they should accept you as their applicant for admission into medical school.

This is made up of all your grades, the MCAT scores, your EC’s and those basic things. After this then you go along in the application process as mentioned, but the parts of amcas are all the primary components of amcas to medical school.

All of the requirements that you know about when applying to medical school are basically what is included in the AMCAS or “primary” application.

How long does AMCAS take to process transcripts

AMCAS can take up to a week or so to process transcripts. Every amcas application is reviewed and processed by an amcas verifier who works hard on making sure everything is legit.

You can expect in the area of 1-3 weeks to process your transcripts from AMCAS. I know, that is a pretty broad range to tell you, truth is though most of the time if everything is legit it should only be about a week to get your applciation all processed and verified.

Why does AMCAS verification take so long

It takes so long to get it verified because amcas verifiers have to go through and verify the amcas application. This includes all of your transcripts, grades included on amcas as well as any other documents you provided like EC’s or AMCAS personal statement etc,.

The EC’s and what not aren’t particularly important to be reviewed, but the transcript is the most important thing.

There are a lot of transcripts and think about all the grades on each of the transcripts. Those need to be verified and the persons name and all their other information need to be thought of as well, you can see why it would take up to 3 weeks to get this done.

How long does it take for AACOMAS to verify your application

It can take up to 2-3 weeks for AACOMAS to verify your application.

This is about the same timeline as the AMCAS application, and I am sure you can guess that it is because there is a lot to go through and verify.

Essentially the same process applies. There is a verifier that goes through the required transcripts, and all the submitted transcripts, and ensures that no incorrect documents have been submitted.

As crazy as it may seem there are times where incorrect coursework makes it onto the official transcripts and ultimately this is just crazy to let something like this happen with so much on the line.

This is why there is a verification process and people whose only job is to verify it all.

How many Medical Schools should you apply to

This is a tough question and there are a lot of things to consider before you decide how many medical schools should apply to.

However, if we’re talking if I was forced to say then I would say that the number is typically around 15-20 med schools that one should realistically apply to at any given time.

This is really a matter of how competitive the rest of your application is.

If you are competitive then you could apply to fewer schools, say in the 10-15 range. If you are less competitive overall then you would be wise to apply to 20 or more schools.

Conclusion

If your AMCAS application is in “ready for review” status, it just means that they’ve received all of the documents you submitted and are working through quality assurance checks. The whole process can take anywhere from a few days to a week or two.

Getting your AMCAS application ready for review simply means submitting all the required documents, its pretty easy from your perspective. Then you just gotta be patient!
